Obituary for Pollard, D. Kent, DDS

D. Kent Pollard passed away on January 27, 2019. Kent was born on January 15, 1933 in Methodist Hospital, Dallas, Texas, to Grace Lawson Pollard and Louis Atticus Pollard. He married Nancy Ruth Hull in 1964. Kent is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Donnie Pollard; daughter, Maurie Jo Thacker; son-in-law, Steve Thacker; granddaughter, Sydney Thacker; grandson, Jake Thacker.

Kent grew up in Oak Cliff where he was an Eagle Scout - Troup 20, attended Rosemont, Greiner, and graduated from Sunset HS in 1950. He attended University of North Texas where he was in Theta Chi Fraternity, ran track, was VP of the Senior Class. Upon graduation in 1954, entered the US Navy where he became an all-weather, night-fighter Navy pilot (VF-52) in Alameda, CA. He flew planes off air craft carriers, spending one tour on the USS Ticonderoga and a short term on the USS Bennington. Kent continued his military service in the Navy Reserves for 28 years where he obtained the rank of Commander.

Kent went to Baylor College of Dentistry graduating in 1964. He practiced dentistry in Midlothian, Oak Cliff, and Duncanville for over 40 years and was very active in his profession serving as VP of the Dental Society, as a delegate to the Texas Dental Association House of Delegates for 13 years, and organizing annual continuing education in Snowmass, CO for 48 years.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his over 42 years of perfect attendance as a member of Rotary International, where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow, and held several offices including president (twice).

Kent’s other interest included a love of all sports, especially softball (where he won the all rag-arm team as catcher) and tennis (where he qualified for sectional playoffs over 12 times and national playoffs 2 times). He also loved talking on the phone, telling stories, hunting and fishing, fixing stuff, and being a great friend, husband, father. About the only thing he did not do was eat bananas.

Visitation is 6-8 pm, Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 11:00 am, Thursday, January 31, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St. Duncanville, TX. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 31, at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX, with military honors.
