
Marjorie Jean Lehre, age 95, passed away on February 3, 2019 in Midlothian, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ovilla with graveside services to follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas. Visitation with the family will be observed on Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jean was born on June 28, 1923 in York, Nebraska as the youngest child of Elmer Earl and Grace Rood Elliott. She graduated Liberty High School in 1940. She married at the young age of 14 to Lee Ostlund. She loving mothered 4 children: Donald Lee, James Edwin, Patricia May and Lynnette Kay Ostlund.
During WWII she moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she worked for U.S. Steel. In 1955 she married Jack Lehre and moved to Texas. Through the years she had various jobs such as running a gas station on the very frigid Nebraska-Wyoming border, working on a hospital switchboard, and having her own data processing company. She was the long-time head of data processing for Pearl Optical in Dallas.
She was the first woman to serve on the church council of Advent Lutheran Church in Dallas. She later joined New Life in Christ Lutheran Church in Duncanville where she served on the board of Lauback Literacy. She joined Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church when she moved to Ovilla.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International service sorority for over 40 years, where she met many of her closest friends such as Maxine Olson, Bettye Carter, Mariam Summers and Carol Gearner. She was a member of Bible Study Fellowship and the Shiloh Bible study group.
She loved scrapbooking before it was cool and enjoyed making books for her sorority, friends and family members. She was a big fan watching Travis Bond play basketball for Ovilla Christian School Eagles and Dirk Nowitzki playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren. She spent many hours babysitting and doing projects with and for them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lehre and son, Jim, all of her siblings and many wonderful friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Thelma Ostlund of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ken Mierzwik of Quinlan; daughter and son-in-law Lynnette and Mike Bond of Ovilla; step daughter Judy Wellock of Tennessee; grandchildren Steven Ostlund, David Ostlund, Christopher Ostlund, Michael Germ, Allison Clarke, Ryan Layne, Jarod Moss, Travis Bond and Whitney Bond, and 7 great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her helpful, caring spirit, loyalty to family and love of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Memorial Donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
