Anne Irene Migala
March 2, 2010

Anne Irene Makowska Migala, age 84, passed away peacefully into eternal life on March 2, 2010. She was born in Troyes, France on March 4, 1925. As a youth, she served with her family in the French Resistance during WWII by using her family’s farm and café as a pivotal hub to help smuggle Jews and other persecuted people, allied soldiers and pilots out of occupied France. After the war, she helped with the reconstruction effort, finished school and attended the University of Paris-Sorbonne where she obtained her Master’s Degree in phonetics. While at Sorbonne she met and later married her husband of 58 years, Marian Lechoslaw Migala, by whom she is survived, along with their five children: Therese Migala Moncrief and her husband Tom of Fort Worth, TX; Witold Migala, of Fort Worth, TX; Henri Migala, and his wife Abigail of San Diego, CA; Arthur Migala and his wife Leslie of Duncanville, TX; and Alexandre Migala and his wife Leah of Argyle, TX. She is also survived by her brother Thadeus Makowski of Buc, France, and her niece who resides with her family in Tahiti, and her nephews who reside with their families in France; two grandsons John Alexander and Tom Oil Moncrief; one step-grandson Michael Neumann; two granddaughters Clara and Sofia; two step-granddaughters Rachel and Lisa; and three step-grandchildren. She is preceded in her death by her parents Henri Makowski and Agnes Maziarz Makowska, and her sister Henriette Makowski Savelli.
Upon first immigrating to the United States, she worked towards establishing what would become the national shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania during which she had the opportunity to work with the future Pope, John Paul II. Always a champion of human rights, she was outraged to have once encountered a water fountain with a sign indicating, ‘whites only’ and thereafter refused to go anywhere segregation was practiced. After living in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Texas, her husband’s architectural work took the family to Bangkok, Thailand and Munich, Germany before returning to and finally settling in Duncanville, Texas. Shortly after their arrival, Anne and her family became charter members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Duncanville where they took joy in supporting all the opportunities afforded by prayer and worship. She loved to learn and continued to take classes and to study well into her 70s. She loved music, singing, dancing, interacting with people, and praying, but above all, Anne’s devotion to Christ shone through all her actions. Through her dedication and commitment to the Catholic Faith, she quickly endeared herself to people around the world. Although she bravely fought the disease which finally claimed her life, she spent the last few years traveling with her children to those places she had never had a chance to visit and returned to those most important to her. Three years ago, her children took her to visit Rome, which she had never seen, and Paris, to visit with her relatives and the friends of her youth. The next year, her children arranged for her to tour the Holy Land and visit Fatima, Portugal, one of the destinations she had only dreamed of someday visiting. Last year, again accompanied by one of her sons and his family, she visited her niece, her namesake, in Tahiti, the final destination of her dreams. Anne was blessed to have lived a full life and the legacy of her devotion to her family will always be evident through their faith and accomplishments. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends and all who have had the honor, pleasure and privilege of having met her unique and ebullient personality and spirit of goodwill. Our prayers are with her as heaven, its angels and saints welcome home one of their own.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville at 3:30 p.m. on March 6, 2010. Visitation and Rosary will be prior to the service beginning at 2:30 pm. God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered “Come with Me”.

With tearful eyes, We watched you
And saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A gold heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He takes only the best.

Sarah V. Rutledge
February 24, 2010

Rutledge, Sarah Vaudine Passed away 2-24-2010 at peace and at home. Born March 30, 1917 on a farm in Hill Country, Texas, outside Blum. She left home at 17 to teach in rural schools. WWII brought her to Dallas and she never looked back. Unflinching optimism and the instinct to face forward, embrace progress, certain a brighter future awaited were characteristics that defined her; secondarily only to her unwavering, unconditional love for her three sons. These qualities were, in no small measure, what made her the rare magnet for friends of several generations and of history, social level, professional station and financial status. She embraced the person, not the shell, with equal appreciation and acceptance. Her near-century of experiences and adventures never dulled her love of life. In hard times and flush, she wanted the best for her family and for their dreams to be big. Battered by the sudden death of her husband almost 40 years ago, a bout with breast cancer almost 20 years ago, and the much more recent death of a son, she remained spiritually unbeaten till her last breath. Preceded in death by her aforementioned husband W.B. Rutledge Sr. and her son, John Rutledge as well as a sister, Richie Scott and two brothers, Bower Ripley and James Harold Ripley; Sarah is survived by sons Wiliam and Steve Rutledge, Debbie Roper who was considered a daughter and was as loved and accepted as a daughter would be, daughters-in-law Kay Bell and Dee Potter. Additionally, she is survived by six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A special acknowledgement must be accorded Debbie Roper for her more than a decade of selfless, gracious love and companionship to Sarah who along with Sarah's son Steve, made it possible for Sarah to spend her final years in the familiarity of her own home with professional round-the-clock attention. We want to express our deep appreciation to the many caregivers over the past eleven years, especially Pegi Cahill, Jeannie Martin and Carol Anne Williams, who provided special love, caring attention, loving hearts and became like part of the family and will never be forgotten. Thanks to Gloria Lewis and Mike Gooch who provided support and attention through our journey. Thanks to Leon and Esther Richardson who always kept an eye out for our safety and were the very best of neighbors. Thanks to Baylor House Calls, especially Melinda Suggs, Mary Lockhart, Dr. Saltillo and Dr. Studley. Thanks to Faith Hospice, especially Marian Greenway, Dale McEowen, Chere Craft, Holly Cooksey and all the nurses and staff who came when we called. A very special thanks to Carol Anne Williams who came every day to provide care and support. She was always here, even with a foot of snow on the ground. She is a pure heart who has the touch of an angel and was there until the very last breath. Thanks to Encompas Home Health, especially Debra Gray who is a trusted and loved nurse, as well as, a friend and a provider. May God Bless each and everyone of you and may He hold you in the palm of his hand. Visitation will be Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 2:00pm-4:00pm. Service will be held Monday March 1, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Chapel at Jaynes. Graveside service to follow at Laurel Land. Tonight, Sarah rests along side the comfort of angels and begins the splendor of an eternity awarded those who have lived a life of giving and love. She won't look back.

She was born to H.B. and Beatrice Haynes on November 28, 1934, and was known to them as Jo Baby. She moved with her parents to Ft. Worth where she attended grade school and moved back to Dallas where she attended Sunset High School and there met her husband to be, Tom Towry. She also attended Southern Methodist University. Jo Ann was an active member of the Disciples of Christ Church for 67 years, serving in a number of positions in both the church and in the Disciples Women’s Fellowship group. Along the path of her life she also taught in a private school, and worked for a number of years in retail and in the Wedding Registry for Foley’s, before retiring. She was a member of the Methodist Guild and many other civic organizations during her lifetime. Jo Ann’s main objectives for life were to be a devoted, loving wife, good mother, and good Christian witness, with foremost concerns for what was best for those around her. Those who knew her would agree that she not only reached, but exceeded her goals and feel that God will surely assign her as a guardian angel immediately. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom Towry; son, Tom Towry, Jr.; daughter, Shelley Towry Boyd; and grandson Forrest Boyd. Memorial services are 11:00 am, MONDAY, February 15, 2010, at First Christian Church, 203 S. Main in Duncanville, Texas.
