Stephen Clifton Phillips, born to A.C. & Daphne Phillips on December 11, 1952 and passed away February 2, 2010. Born in Oak Cliff (Dallas), Texas, he graduated from Kimball High School. He went on to graduate from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas with a bachelor’s of science degree in business. He served in the Air National Guard & began his lifelong career in the lumber business- initially with his father. He went on to become owner & President of Phillips Lumber Co., Inc. Active in Scouting, he mentored Boy Scouts in Troop 520 for 18 years and helped countless young men in their journey to become Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed cooking on campouts & won numerous awards for cobblers & chilis. He loved to use his smoker to supply friends & family with his famous meatloaf, ribs & other specialties. He loved traveling to Creede, Colorado with his family. Active in the development of Cedar Hill, he served as city councilman, Mayor pro tem & sat on the Main Street Committee. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Robin; his three children, Jason, Cheryl & Christopher; his brother, Don & wife, Karen; nieces & nephews, Kathy & husband, Garrett Goen, Brian & Lisa Phillips & great-niece, Ryan. A member & deacon of the Church of Christ, Steve was a devoted Christian who has now joined his father above. Funeral Service is 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Cedar Hill Church of Christ, 535 S. Clark Road. Burial will follow at Little Bethel Cemetery. Nevelle Boyd, born Nov. 5th 1930, went to be with the Lord Feb. 2, 2010. She was born near Brownfield TX, the youngest of 8 children, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by husband of 40 years, James Boyd, daughter Pam Marston and husband Russell, son Gary Boyd and wife Becky, daughter Pat Douthit and husband Gary, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Grand Prairie TX. Family will be receiving friends at visitation on Friday Feb. 5th, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm. Pastor James Hogue will be presiding over funeral services on Saturday Feb. 6th, 2010, at 2 pm at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, Duncanville.

Margie Goode Newsome died February 1, 2010. She was born August 13, 1922 near Van Alstyne, Texas to W. A. Goode and Rona Crook Goode. Retired, she was a minister in the Church of God as an evangelist and pastor of churches in Texas and Mississippi. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Goss; son, Charles Francis; two stepdaughters, Warene Wall and Barbara Krumvieda; sister, Betty Todd; three grandchildren & two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Dallas Newsome; her parents; son Jerry Francis; 2 brothers & four sisters all preceded Margie in death. William Gregory "Greg" Walker, 62, passed away January 31, 2010. Greg was born May 30, 1947, in Arkansas City, Kansas. Greg and his family have been long time residents of DeSoto since 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Oza Mae Walker. He is survived by his wife, Gail; daughter, Robin; son, Jonathan Walker and wife, Shanna; three grandchildren, William, Jonathan, and Olivia; and brother, Doug Walker and wife, Brenda. Greg is also survived by his very special Aunt & Uncle, Zelpha and Wayne Thomason, who treated the family as grandchildren since the death of Greg's mom. He will also be missed by his nephews, nieces, cousins and many loving friends. Greg was a member of the Cedar Hill Church of Christ, where he served as both a deacon and an elder. His life-long interest was working with the children at each congregation where he worshipped. Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Cedar Hill Church of Christ. Ida Lou Gay Park was born April 20, 1925 to John Robert and Stella Ida Gay in Newcastle, Texas.

She and her brothers and sisters were raised and educated in Olney Texas. She had three sisters, Mamie, Roberta, and Bobbie, and one brother, J.W.
“A Time to Love”
Ida Lou married Bernard Park on January 1, 1949. They had two children, Marshall and Margaret.
“A Time to Find”
She was an active member of the First Christian Church, the Ruth Circle, and the Duncanville Book Club. She volunteered at Acton Elementary and Daniel Intermediate Schools.
“A Time to Reap”
They opened Duncanville Pharmacy in 1962 and later moved to Duncanville in 1963. They owned and operated Duncanville Pharmacy until 1978.
“A Time to Die”
Ida Lou completed the life God gave her on Wednesday, January 28, 2010.
“A Time to Mourn”
Ida Lou leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Bernard Park, one son, Marshall Park and wife Karen, one daughter, Margaret Thomas, five grand children, Mitchell, Victoria and Katherine Park, Jason and Taylor Thomas, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a multitude of dear longstanding friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Gay, sisters, Mamie, Roberta and Bobbie, and brother J.W.

Verna (Vinyard) Plummer passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at age 97. Verna was a member of an early pioneering family in Dallas County, born to Louie and Todd Vinyard on August 19, 1912, on the Vinyard homestead. At age 16, she met her future husband, Chester Plummer, on a blind date. They were married 64 years until his death in 1995. She was a great-granddaughter of founding members of Wesley Chapel. Verna was an active, life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Duncanville, Texas. A faithful member of the Bob Tanner Class, she also served as President of the WSCS. She was a charter member of the D.A.R Chapter, The Old Chisholm Trail. In recognition of her work in preserving her mother’s early documentation concerning pioneer history, the city council appointed her as Vice-President of the organization charged with writing the history of Duncanville. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, her sister, Zelda Johnston, and two brothers, Clayborne and George. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Mona Fay Plummer Acton, loving son-in-law, Charles Acton, granddaughters, Angela Cummings and Valerie McElroy, and grandson-in-law, Pat McElroy. Also surviving are her four great-grandchildren, Cale, Remy and husband Ryan, Trent, and Shea; and a great-great-granddaughter, Arianna. Visitation with the family is 7-9 pm, Friday, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 10:00 am, Saturday, January 30, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main in Duncanville. 86, was born January 14, 1924, in Bannister, Texas to his parents, Robert and Leona Lacy and passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and also was a long time employee of Dow Chemical Co. Larry is survived by his two sons, Stephen “Steve” Lacy and Eric Lacy and wife, Wendy; stepson, Andy Jasper; daughter-in-law, Karan Jasper; grandchildren, Craig, Michael, Christine and Megan Lacy; and three sisters, Ida Mixon, Leona Henly and Charlsie Nygard. James Warren Gibson passed away January 21, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. He was born October 31, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee. He had lived in Amarillo from 1952 until 2009, when he moved to Duncanville, Texas, in July of 2009, to be near his son and family. James is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Duncanville; two sons, Charles Edward Gibson of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Jack Warren Gibson of Duncanville; four granddaughters, Grey Gibson and Bonnie Gibson of Dripping Springs, Hannah Gibson of Duncanville, and Lacie Morales of Amarillo; two sisters, Gloria Ashley of Lubbock, Texas, and Kathy Callaway of Bend, Oregon; one brother, John Gibson of Richardson, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. No funeral services are planned.

Ouida Reno, age 89, died January 19, 2010, at her home in Dallas. Ouida was born Apr 21, 1920, in Grand Prairie and graduated from Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. She retired from Sears. She was ABWA Woman of the Year in 1971-1972, Mrs. Mature Dallas in 1980, and Volunteer of the Year in 1996 at Methodist Central Hospital. She was very interested in crafts of all kinds and taught ceramics at Kiest Park for several years. She was a past member of the Silver Serenaders Senior Choir. She is survived by her son, Jerry Reno and wife, Robyn, of Garland, and son, Kevin Reno and wife, Sue, of Irving. Visitation: 7 - 8 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. Memorial service: 2:00 PM, Friday, January 22, 2010, at Jaynes, following a private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scottish Rite or a favorite charity.
